Einstein, A. : Quote of the Week

“Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I’m not sure about the former.”

The MOST famous scientist in human history, his face is instantly recognisable and has become synonymous with genius throughout the world; yet so few actually know what Einstein was actually famous for, they nevertheless treat him as the grand daddy of scientific achievement often ahead of Newton (whose meagre achievements Einstein effectively shat on, proving conclusively that all laws are relative to the universal constant ‘c’ also known as ‘light’).

Lots of religious people like to point out that Einstein believed in God, they are wrong! Einstein used ‘God’ figuratively in quotes and so forth, and might’ve even thought of God in the Spinozan sense, as a synonym for nature; but never really practiced belief! He was a scientist, and as any good scientist he followed the evidence, without jumping to (unvarifiable) conclusions.

Pastor does the Predictable

In the wake of the news that CERN’S Large Hadron Collider has suffered a problem and will be shut down until April 2009, should we have been remotely surprised that the religious quarter has added its cretinus opinion as to why it all went wrong? Of course not, it is afterall their hobby to offer their stupidly facile and fallacious opinions to any discussion. Read more »

Freedom Denied! Turkey bans Richard Dawkins website.

RichardDawkins.Net has been banned in Turkey; this is just the latest assault against the Oxford Professor by Islamic Creationist Oktar, who tried to get The God Delusion banned from Turkey earlier this year. Read more »

Matt Stone and Trey Parker speak out against Scientology

Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the comedy geniuses responsible for the fabulous contrarian show South Park; issued this statement in the wake of the Scientology Contraversy, in which one of their episodes, which featured Scientology as part of its narrative; was mysteriously denied its re-run. Ever secretive circumspect the church denies any involvement with the producers unwillingness to allow the episode to be re-aired on television, but many have taken it upon themselve to read between the lines; including Matt and Trey, who made this surreal press statement: -

“So, Scientology you may have won this battle, but the million-year war for Earth has just begun.”

Critics of Scientology know how to read between the lines… and though I hate to say it, my beliefs in this instance are greater than that of the material evidence (which has no doubt been neatly swept under the carpet).

South Park on Scientology

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=UrTrzsIxcXs

I think this clip largely stands for itself, the clip is from a South Park episode featuring Scientology, mysteriously Comedy Central refused to re-run the episode. Comedy Central is owned by Paramount, who were promoting Mission Impossible 3 at the time. Tom Cruise is a Scientologist, he also played the lead role in Mission Impossible 3. Read more »

Methodist Moronics

Earlier this week in the Sentinel we received the profound news from a city minister that CERN’s Large Hadron Collider is a huge waste of money; informing us that a £5.00 bible would have revealled just as much information in the first chapter of Genesis. He bases this amazing revelation on the fact that the big bang happens to coinside with the verse ‘let there be light’. Read more »

How to Greet a Mormon

I spy South Park’s Trey Parker (Mormon on the Right) in that white starched shirt, another blissfully funny sketch from a comedy genius. I can help but sympathise with the old lady, having had some experience with Mormons on an indepth level, I happen to know how annoying their circular logic can be, to anyone who doesn’t know their Mormon arguments, treat this clip as a training video, just don’t let them in!

Meetings Set Back

We discovered that the otherwise perfect venue for regular Stoke Humanist meetings, has been debarred. Hanley library’s large meeting room, would’ve provided excellent facilities and a nice central location for our purposes. Unfortunately, owing to local by-laws, the library staff are not permitted to allow their meeting rooms to be used for any religious or irreligious groups. Read more »
